The Handy Paint Pail was originally created in 2001 with a classic Do-It-Yourself style. Mark Bergman, while doing some painting around his house, found his hand tiring while using the standard "coffee can" paint container. He then designed a strap out of duct tape, thus creating the Handy Paint Pail. This multi-use pail includes a built-in bracket, magnetic brush holder, roller grid, and tool and rag holder, making it the perfect solution for any project, whether on or off a ladder.

In 2008, Bercom made changes and improvements to their existing products, starting with the color of the pails. They decided to change the color from gray to red, believing that if they urge their customers to continuously change colors, they should follow suit as well. Following this trend, they also made the Pro Series Paint Pail lighter in weight, lower in price, and renamed it the Handy Roller Pail. Furthermore, customer requests for a way to attach the Roller Pail to a ladder led to the creation of the Handy Ladder Hook, which not only secures the Handy Roller Pail or a standard paint can to any ladder but can also be used for various other applications.

The most exciting and successful new product from Bercom in 2008 was the Handy Paint Cup, an entry-level paint cup that hit the ground running. Although it does not have all the features of the original Handy Paint Pail, it is more affordable and still provides customers with similar functionality. The disposable Handy Paint Cup holds up to a pint of paint and includes a built-in magnet, making it perfect for trim work and craft projects.
